Bill Baird - "Couch Olympics"

Bill Baird - "Couch Olympics"

Lovely to have Bill Baird covered again by the Tome. We’ve been big fans for awhile. “Couch Olympics” is a big reminder why. Spacy, psychedelic and grounded, the video for “Couch Olympics” has a pretty incredible back story, according to Baird, '"Couch Olympics is the imagined sound of falling backwards into a couch and being swallowed inside of a dream and all of the acrobatic and wonderful movements of the imagination when you’re caught in a reverie. It could also just be a drooling slump next to a stale pizza crust. The video was shot on 16mm film in India. I traveled there for 6 weeks with a film crew, making a movie that’s never been released. It was sponsored by air India, who paid for the trip. The film was to be shown on their flights but I don’t know they liked it much. Me stumbling around, confused, in awe, drinking hashish yogurt and dancing like the awkward man I am. We visited the Dalai Lama’s house but he wasn’t home. The overall effect of the film was like a non-muscular Indiana Jones who can’t grow facial hair, getting swept up into crowds of people wondering what the hell he’s doing."
