Gianluca Iadema - "ID[entità] 02"

It’s not everyday we get to review new work from the legendary label Mille Plateaux. The Swiss artist Gianluca ladema and the vocalist Franziska Baumann create a beautifully warped and fully formed sound world with “"ID[entità] 02". While there is so much to love here - the way Baumann’s voice slowly mutates into mechanical hissing or is chopped into breathy words before being smeared like paint on a canvas, the press release states, “Rarefied moments, melodic outbursts reminiscent of Renaissance vocal music, and rave rhythms give rise to sonic textures embedded in a minimalist framework. The compositions are conceived in "spaces" rather than linear development, although an "ergodic" narrative is present. With a cubist approach, the spatially sculpted sounds transform into intimate moments and vice versa, thus allowing atmospheres to separate identity and non-identity.”
