On Deck: Quiet Evenings — "Transcending Spheres"

Transcending Spheres

Another week, another gorgeous new video from Rachel Evans. This one is for her own project, Quiet Evenings—a duet of soothing, waxing drones from she and her husband Grant Evans (who also records as Nova Scotian Arms). Between the two, their work running the excellent Hooker Vision label, as well as their numorous collaborations with some of the hottest in undie/indie-cassette manufacturers, The Evans family has cranked out something of an insane catalog. However, the title track off their forthcoming 'debut' CD here could serve as something of a high-water mark for the intense amount of love, tenderness and time they clearly put into their art. Some of the artists we cover here at TOME central are insanely prolific... so much so that it's quite hard to get up to speed on everything they've ever done (while furiously filtering through all the other great stuff attacking our inbox on the daily). So these releases—these benchmarks or milestones in their careers—feel somehow even more epic and important. And from this little sample, this unbelievably sensual track and video, the upcoming release on the Preservation label (currently up for pre-order... yep, already snagged one) should prove to fulfill such prodigal potentials.

A note - the video is definitely NSFW. But the sexuality portrayed here is quite beautiful and very non-confrontational. It flows so well with the video's other imagery as themes of nature, space, balance and procreation softly infiltrate Quiet Evenings' humbling flow. The music of "Transcending Spheres" itself is visual to the point where you can almost predict what you're going to see next in the video: majestic waves crashing, flowers growing and celestial slow-mos all give the music a big, grandiose picture that belies its delicate subtlety.
