On “Aperture” by the UK producer Birchy – the 17 year old from Leicester shows a great deal of promise. Birchy’s approach mixes deep ambient pulls and obscured synths with heavy breakbeats that hold the low-end down. Comparisons to Bicep and Four Tet makes a lot of sense. Birchy is traveling some deep waters, creating compositions that feel deeply lived in and captures the feeling of firsthand experiences of riding the train home at night after the club or early morning walks through still sleeping neighborhoods. Brilliant stuff.
