Layering projections over the slow motion movements of the lithe body of a dancer, the New Zealand based guitarist Aagyr Ferboden takes overblown and distortion filled guitar passages into aching and beautiful territory here where the melodicism is met with bracing, but tender, emotional outpouring. Ferboden's in-the-red lines swirl around create quiet crescendos with each turn of a phrase. Completely drenched but in complete control, "Mezzanine" is resplendent in it's squallor.
