Kim Myhr - "Up To The Sun Shall Go Your Heartache"

Out on Hubro Records, the latest single "Up To The Sun Shall Go Your Heartache" is an excellent, long-player of free and expressive jazz and post-rock that moves from the ecstatic to contemplative and sublime. This dynamic composition reminds me a bit of Chris Schlarb’s earliest large ensemble compositions that explore the liminal space between structure and improvisation - dream and reality. The last aspect of which the Norwegian composer made explicit stating, ““It’s a track that the listener can disappear in, very rich in terms of elements present, but less complex formally,” adds Myhr of the track. “The many superimposed tracks of drums and drum machines create a very immersive rhythmic feeling for the listener.”
