Will Gardner - "Blossom"

Starting with fragmentary pieces and eventually finding somewhere near where the center can hold, “Blossom” by Will Gardner is an aptly named track, one that watches several elements arrange and rearrange itself. The album, “explores my experience caring for my Dad through the final stages of Parkinsons Dementia.

The album is both an aural imagining of the dementia experience (it’s memory slippages, disturbances, delusions and paranoias), whilst also being a personal account of grieving for a parent, and what it means to grieve for someone who is still alive.

It was composed largely using extracts from my dad’s personal diaries. Fragments of the text were used to derive the rhythms and melodies on which the tracks are built. Through this process, a sort of translation occurred: the immediate meaning became lost, but an imprint of it remained, in traces, within the music. “
