“Goldfields” by Australian sound artist and experimental electronic musician Cat Tyson Hughes explores the concept of using commitment to daily rituals – walking and field recording in this case – to interact with and reflect upon both the physical and sonic realm of the world around her. Tyson calls this materialist phenomenon “Thing Power” and utilizes it to great effect on “Goldfields”. Aching drones are held at bay by the voices and sonic fields picked up through field recordings of her walk. It makes for a lively and contemplative audio experience.
