The UK based composer eases into “Interlude” with a subtle grace that belies a quintet. In the relatively short 2 minute running time, Cross folds in double bass, two cellos, a violin and viola. The track seems to breathe and swell with oceanic rhythms at an almost imperceptible pace. “Interlude”. In it’s placement on the “Bybrook” EP serves as an emotional breather of sorts before the emotional tension and release really ratchets up as the album ends. By offering this salvo as a single, we are able to ease in Cross’s work with all limbs intact.
