Kinnie Starr’s work for the soundtrack of “Edge of the Knife” is a deeply unsettling study of tension and stasis. Telling the story of a young man driven to madness by the spirit of the forest, Kinnie Starr’s deep organic drones, pitch-shifted vocals and wordless cries create a vivid place-making all themselves. Starr’s work is informed by years of found-sound compositions taken from her expeditions deep into Urban America as she traveled the country in the 90’s as a graffiti artist. This spirit of augmenting and layering textural and natural sounds while processing them into some otherworldly shape is rife throughout “They Found Me” and can be safely situated in dark ambient canon. Deep and mysterious work from Kinnie Starr.
