“A.M.I.D” stands for “Ambient Music is Dead”. For a track that is marked by it’s lack of percussion, this is definitely a bold claim. But I’m into it. Utilizing a growing synth arpeggio, percussive piano lines and a general propulsive uplift, “A.M.I.D” feels like a massive, rhythmic track. Instead the U.K. trio cribs ambient music’s playbook and creates something antithetical to the placid, tonal shifts and droning overtones associated with the genre. It’s an overtly beautiful track, saturated with gorgeous synths and perfect sense of timing.
