MISSING NIN – “CHAT UP LINES”

Nietzche famously said, “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” Taking this to heart the Australian based experimental Hip Hop artist  Missing NIN explains the premise of the track, “The driving idea behind “Chat Up Lines‟ was to create a song that outlines how ridiculous and inexcusable a person‟s reasoning would be if they were to think of or engage in any sort predatory behaviour.

“Too often you hear about people getting taken advantage of, especially when they‟re intoxicated and at their most vulnerable, and the premise of  “Chat Up Lines‟ is to highlight the fact that there‟s never an excuse for such behaviour – and if you can relate to the lyrics in the way you justify your own actions, then you‟re part of the problem,”

Missing NIN lays out this premise through a deliriously heavy and noisy production that recalls JPEGMAFIA and clipping. Missing NIN’s heavily affected vocals are buried under a thick pall of distortion and noise, beats hit like a fist wrapped around a roll of quarters and expertly placed vocal samples. The Melbourne based artist has proved himself to be forward thinking in both content and experimental delivery.
