This is the second track we’ve shared from Morgan Doctor’s Strangers project. Built on the concept of “anonymous intimacy”, Morgan Doctor set up a website that recorded messages between strangers that could include…”open letter to humanity, a confession about love or the verbalization of one’s heart’s desire.”. Strangers, the album, serves as the backdrop for these chance connections. Confession booths, the screen of professionalism in therapy. We seem drawn to spilling our guts to strangers rather than risking rejection from those we love. With that in mind, the video and composition for “Strangers VIII” is an uneasy and slightly woozy cello and percussion collaboration composed around the Enlightenment Intensive Technique of repeating the question “tell me who you are”.
Visually, Morgan Doctor takes us through settings both inhabited and empty: a risky world full of connections and isolation.
