When not actually dancing under a narcotic haze, Scrapheaper’s “Nocturne No.2” is the type of deconstructed, decontextualized dance music that I love listening to. All of it’s component parts are there – the build-ups, break-downs, heavy bass lines, thudding kick, skittering high hats – but filtered through such a weird lens that listening to it feels like 10am the next morning – the music still pulsing, everyone dead on their feet and you are picking through the detritus of the night before trying to find your phone. Pleasantly disorienting with a classical nocturne piano interlude included for extra measure. Why not? These are truly the end times.
