DRUM & LACE - "CREATURA"

A refreshingly downtempo, beat-oriented composition from the label Past Inside the Present which I mostly associate with top-shelf ambient music, comes “Creatura” by the Italian artist Drum & Lace. A beautiful composition full of granular synthesis on heavy piano lines, glitched out IDM beats and a combination of the natural and synthetic circling each other like oppositely charged particles. Of the composition and engaging video, Drum & Lace states, “Creatura, from Italian 'creature' or 'creation', is a track about life and birth. Meant both literally and metaphorically, this track is a vehicle to introduce Drum & Lace's new work as well as continue her exploration of manipulating natural sound into digital textures. The track crescendos from quiet sampled pianos into a quasi-primordial beat reflecting the themes of life and birth. Featured in the track are modular synths, digital percussion and field recordings, including the sound of Drum & Lace's toddler's cooing and sonogram.”
