inamomentimalive feels less like a music project and more of a direct response to loss and grief that couldn’t find expression anywhere else. Musically we hear some of the heavy synths and sparse strings in artists like Eluvium and A Winged Victory for the Sullen, but emotionally it’s tenor is more along the line with the immediacy and heavy heartbreak of a book like John Gunther’s 1949 memoir “Death Be Not Proud”. Throughout "Your Heart is Greater Than Your Wounds (For Valentin)" we hear the lapping, slow pulse of a strings rising and falling like chest of a loved one whose breaths are final. Written after the loss of his 15 year old son was killed in a car accident, of the track the artist states, “When I was writing this music, I felt something different. Hard to explain…There was this sort of pulsing rhythmic feel that reminded me of a heartbeat. Your heartbeat. When you died, your heart was still so strong, that it now provides the life beat for another human being. Indeed your heart is greater than your wounds…” In therapy we call this processing, the movement of one expression of grief into another, in artistic terms, however, it is closer to alchemy.
