Spycker - "Decided to Speak"

Spycker - "Decided to Speak"

The compositional context behind “Decided to Speak” by the Netherlands based Spycker is fascinating. According to the press release, “The backbone of Decided to Speak is provided by a melodic pattern derived from Quincy, a unique program in which music is created by feeding it with intricate graphic building blocks. Quincy is based on a cellular automaton devised by the British mathematician John Conway. The compositions created by the program are extremely diverse and unpredictable. The pattern used in Decided to Speak has a nonchalant, mellow motif; it generates a sequence of loosely related notes, never breaking out of the cadence on which the rest of the instrumentation finds its steady foundation.”
