ALASKAN TAPES - "VIEWS FROM SIXTEEN STORIES"
As a composer for film, the Toronto-based Brady Kendall pulls the ephemeral into light. While never pantomiming for the audience, Kendall's scores act as emotional landmarks guiding us deeper into the subject's inner landscape. Alaskan Tapes as a recording project, pulls us even further as any emotional signifiers we bring to this wordless music are entirely of our own making. On the title track to Views from Sixteen Stories, Kendall guides us using deep pulls of horn, shuffling, understated percussion, lightly plucked guitar and ebullient, orchestral drone. The latest from Alaskan Tapes is a somber and deeply felt piece of work.
