ALDER & ASH - "STILL BEATING, STILL BORN"

Adrian Copeland's cello is a full-throated expression. Charting the poles between minimalist classical and maximalist Doom / Industrial clangor, Copeland's 2019 LP "The Crowneater" is a study in extremity. On the album's gorgeous closer  "Still Beating, Still Born" the Montreal based artist layers mournful passages over gently plucked strings that resonate with a sense of broken desire. A will that is stubbornly refusing to be extinguished. It's a completely understandable place to land towards the end of 2019.
