“Persimmon” from body / negative’s upcoming album evertt represents a major step forward in the artist’s ability to conjure entire worlds of emotion from minimal inputs. Taking cues and collaborating with Midwife, body / negative’s work has moved slowly into the world of hypnagogic shoegaze. Evidence by the fact that everett was mastered by Slowdive’s Simon Scott.

According to the press release, “Everett is the third musical release from body / negative, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Andy Schiaffino. Everett’s lo-fi sound blends elements of shoegaze and ambient, while certain moments enter experimental territories. Much of the album is recorded through a hand-held tape recorder, while Andy sings through a landline-style handset in lieu of a microphone, giving the vocals the nostalgic hum of a phone call. Tracks “flowers (the proverbial you),” “everytime,” and “persimmon” feature the artist’s signature in strument – a 1960s Wurlitzer 200a. The album features collaborations with artists that Andy has long admired over the years including Midwife (aka Madeline Johnston), Justin Maranga (Ancestors/Dune Altar Records), and Amulets (aka Randall Taylor).”
