David Deutsch - "Iceland / As the Wind Blows"
Having traveled to Iceland for a bicycle race, I can understand the desire to try to capture the stunning scenery and otherworldly beauty in some kind of creative expression. The multi-instrumentalist and composer David Deutsch succeeds admirably on his eponymously named “Iceland”. Swells of voice, restrained piano, swells of strings seem to map onto the barren landscape. Bringing the reflection inside, “As the Wind Blows” is inspired by “the thoughts and feelings of witnessing the world around you move. It's a reflection of mindfulness, and being present in the moment.” A quietly reflective piece, moments of swelling electronics float between the engaging piano melodies at the track’s core.
