Joseph Shabason - "Welcome to Hell"

Joseph Shabason - "Welcome to Hell"

An ambient jazz reinterpretation of “the seminal 1996 skate video from Toy Machine that helped launch the careers of skaters like Mike Maldonado, Elissa Steamer, Brian Anderson, Jamie Thomas, and more” Joseph Shabason’s “Welcome to Hell” is a slow motion video of a skateboarder landing a trick in reverse. Muscles clenched, a oneness of body and mind, meditative exhalations once we are back on firm ground. A vocal debut with Felicity Williams “Welcome to Hell” which the press release states, “is Shabason leaning into the more ambient electronic side of his repertoire to close out the album. It features a calming vocal harmony that lies atop the video’s infamous “bail section” from the original video. A horrific collection of skateboarders falling and twisting themselves into agonizing, unnatural shapes — a Hieronymous Bosch captured on VHS.”
