Matmos - "Mud Dauber Wasp"

Matmos - "Mud Dauber Wasp"

The legendary experimental duo Matmos returns with “a song built entirely out of a recording of a mud dauber wasp in flight originally recorded by Albro T. Gaul for his "The Sound of Insects" LP (Folkways Records, 1960, FW06178); this archival recording was manipulated, sampled and re-built into a new composition. Electronics and processing by Matmos (Drew Daniel and M.C Schmidt). The song "Mud Dauber Wasp" appears on the album "Return to Archive" (Smithsonian Folkways, 2023). The video was created by M.C. Schmidt out of various found footage of an array of different wasp species, including carnivorous wasps feeding on carrion.”
