Sion Trefor - "In Another Life / Klui"

Taken from the soundtrack of the film Paragon, these two tracks by the UK based Sion Trefer offer a journey deep into some unsettling ambient and experimental electronic works that rank up there with some of the best by artists like Ben Frost. “In Another Life” Trefor builds on a simple melody by gradually adding more and more distortion until the melody becomes a distressed, xerox of a xerox version of itself. A beautiful and compelling turn that goes straight for the emotional jugular.

“Klui” named for the protagonist of the film is a bit more of a neo-classical / dark ambient bent to it. Singular piano notes sound in the darkness of an anxious and noisy drone. Deep sub bass hits as the piano melody slowly unspools into itself. Disembodied voices and labored breathing seep through the aural mist like hungry ghosts. It’s an intense track to be sure.
