Taken from the “Living Drone Edition 1” from Fveld Music, the Netherlands based artist lays down a truly stunning composition of ambient jazz. Starting with rolling piano lines over a field of generative drones, baern’s breathy saxophone is an expressive and totally welcome addition to this composition. Punctuated by moments of calm, clean piano lines, the interplay between the composed and improvised is on full display here, creating lovely pockets of sound.

Rounding out this duo of tracks for Fveld Music’s Living Drone series is the accomplished ambient artist andarctica whose work has been featured several times on Tome to the Weather Machine. For Living Drone - which Fveld Music describes as a “collaborative work of living music is released as editions, gathered and published in its final medium as this streaming playlist”, andarctica is clearly in their element. A lovely ambient composition filled with heavy, organic drones, rolling piano lines put through granular synthesis and introspective tonal passages that crate a deep tunnel into the subconscious. I am looking forward to hearing the entire project.
