BRENDAN EDER ENSEMBLE - #20 (APHEX TWIN COVER)

The Los Angeles based composer Brendan Eder pays homage to to Aphex Twin by covering #20 from the electronic musician's iconic Selected Ambient Works. Through an acoustic chamber ensemble consisting featuring bassoon work by Amber Wyman, Henry Solomon on alto sax, Sarah Robinson on flute, Vincent Camuglia on clarinet, Logan Kane on electric bass and Eder on drums.  Eder is able to coax the inherent melodies out of the composition with a gentle, meandering grace that highlights a musicality Richard D. James often underplays. Eder's composition follows several of the melodic phrasings down to their bare components before building them up into strong statements that could stand alone regardless of the source. "#20" is a lovingly reconstructed take on one of the most original musical voices of the last few decades.
