Hanging Valleys - "Pistol Shrimp"

Hanging Valleys - "Pistol Shrimp"

There is a lot to sink into with Hanging Valley’s latest single “Pistol Shrimp”. The duo blend the often muted and obscured melodies and gossamer threads of ambient music with falsetto singing and modern folk sensibilities. The combination of the two hits right in the solar plexus. Of the curious name, the press release states, The overarching theme of the EP is one of reverence and gratitude. It's about finding that mindset where you can appreciate the people and places that surround you. Grabbing hold of your map as if your life depends on it (It does) and pointing your compass towards finding what's real.

The song "Pistol Shrimp" is a prayer and a hope for those unique souls who protect, fight and stand up for others, despite putting themselves in the firing line. The pistol shrimp can create an incredible amount of noise for their size, they use this ability to protect their burrows and deter predators. Their eyesight is not good however and they often share their homes with a goby fish who is able to alert them of any danger. Thumbed electric guitar and Thom's falsetto ripple into a gentle adventure of acoustic guitar and glistening synths.
