Jack Zaferes - "Amygdala"

The amygdala or “fear center” of the brain regulates the chemicals that get released into our system when confronted with a situation that activates our fight or flight response. An ancient structure this part of the brain switches on a process that is very difficult to switch off once it get’s going. Experimental composer Jack Zaferes explores and gives voice to this process in the incredibly engaging video and composition “Amygdala” - the rapid piano lines, escalating percussive patterns and textures are given visual accompaniment through the Zaferes’ personification of these chemical interactions. From the press release, Zaferes states, “I take molecular formulas and turn them into polyrhythmic sequences. Just a few days ago I released my first song entitled “Amygdala”! The sound you hear at the start of the composition is the “Molecular Rhythm” for Dopamine, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine and Cortisol! Thus the naming of the song Amygdala.”
