McKenzie Stubbert - "Falling"

McKenzie Stubbert - "Falling"

Taken from the upcoming album Waiting Room, the pianist McKenzie Stubbert presents a heavily percussive approach to the piano that seems to wring harmonic phrasings from mid-air. Using a toy box approach to the supporting melodies here, “Falling” is a sonically and thematically rich solo piano composition that is illustrated perfectly by the dance performance visual accompaniment. From the press release, “Stubbert is an Emmy-nominated and AMP Award-winning composer based in Los Angeles, and I thought his music might be up your alley as it intelligently blends new classical and electronic elements through experimentation, frustration, and trying to find something within himself. Much of it was recorded on a 1949 Acrosonic riddled with aches and clicks and sputters, giving the music almost a percussive element that most definitely comes from the piano itself. “
