Paul Cousins - "Broken Patches of Sky"

Paul Cousins continues his experiments in tape manipulation creating beautiful and engaging ambient music with “Broken Patches of Sky”. Side by side images of Cousins construction of these loops next to natural footage of creation and destruction create a beautiful counter force for these melodies and warped sounds to land. According to the press release, 'Broken Patches of Sky' is the first single from my debut album 'Vanishing Artefacts'. The album was created using reel-to-reel machines, tape loops and experiments with sound art. The original ideas processed through 1/4” tape become a hazy facsimile of their former state, as tape is manipulated and effected to mould something new.

"These compositions were recorded to quarter inch tape and manipulated using various reel-to reel techniques including speed alterations, tape loops, random assembly and frippertronics. Hiss, clicks and other sonic artefacts have been preserved where possible to highlight the process."
