REQUIEM & SIMON MCCORRY - "PUBLIC; DOMAIN"

It’s really inspiring to hear new work from the collaboration between D.C based Requiem and UK artist Simon McCorry with their latest single and video for “Public; Domain” from their latest album Joy; Division out earlier in October. Requiem is Requiem is the cinematic, neo-classical, ambient focused, post-rock project of Tristan Welch (Guitar, Electronics) and Douglas Kallmeyer (Bass, Electronics, Production) and classically trained cellist Simon McCorry. Their last album on Hush Hush Critical; Mass was a favorite of mine in 2021. The same minimal but heavy drone set pieces and emotionally resonant pulls of McCorry’s cello are effective in slowing the blood down for a few minutes. According to the press release, '“together these three artists create strikingly powerful instrumental music filtered through a prism both haunting and gorgeous. A masterful fusion of their cinematic and minimal strengths, the album’s long form pieces swell and sway between ambient, drone, neo-classical, and psychedelic zones for a sound”. Paired with this flattening and doubling imagery, “Public; Domain” is a must-watch for fans of ambient, drone and post-rock.
