Ben McElroy - "Collecting Bone Dust"

In what is slowly becoming one of my early favorite albums of 2022, “Collecting Bone Dust” is the second single from Nottingham, UK based Ben McElroy from his album How I Learned to Disengage from the Pack out on Slow Music Movements. “Collecting Bone Dust” we hear elongated tones from a cello and whistle meet in the firmament and eddy there awhile. This in and of itself would have been a perfectly fine place to land. A delicate, forlorn piece full of upward ascending lines, but about halfway through, a distorted komische inspired synth passage keeps us tied and tethered to the dirt. It’s a beautiful and disorienting piece of work.
