JAVIER TORREALBA - "A HUG FROM A FRIEND, PT. II"
The modular synthesizer sitting upright in a case next to the ghostly apparition of Javier Torrealba is a great indication of what is in store with the slowly evolving composition "A Hug from a Friend, Pt. II” from the Norwegian artist. Much like contemporaries Emily A. Sprague and Steve Hauschildt, Torrealba is able to produce a deeply rich, warm and human composition from a complex of wires and switches. “A Hug from a Friend, Pt. II.” features several intersecting melodic phrasings and lo-fi textures that produce a warm afterglow throughout the entire composition. While rich and warm, the melodies descend in a melancholic structure - similar to the way we can feel our endorphins slowly begin to fade the further we get from a meaningful hug from a friend.
