Ruben Kotkamp - "he could not dance to anything (Exploited Body Remix) / "10,000 Gushes"

According to his website: “Ruben Kotkamp’s practice is focused on the visceral experience of the audience, concerned more with physical and emotional responses than with intellectual ones. By employing techniques from psychoacoustics, synesthetic art, and spatial composition he is searching for tactility in a field that is naturally ethereal.”

Focusing on the concept of naturally ethereal, these two compositions “he could not dance to anything” and “10,000 gushes” certainly feels as though they exist in a plane of existence all to themselves. Granular waves of noise are punctuated by condensed bursts that punch through the composition with a restrained sense of violence. Amplified distortion is sanded over both of these compositions, creating a feeling of tension and intimacy. As if the microphone is placed uncomfortably close to Koltkamp. Mastered by Lawrence English, both of these compositions seem to reluctantly give way into some kind of unseen audio world replete with it’s own demiurge.
